CK Is Complying With Garbage & Recycling Collection

Chatham-Kent's manager of waste and recycling services is happy with how a warning period went last month.

Decals were placed on toter carts and other waste items at the curb that didn't comply with collection rules to make the program cleaner and more efficient.

Manager Rick Kucera tells BlackburnNews.com only 83 warnings were issued during the last week of February for overflowing garbage carts and recycling bins.

He says that's good compared to 34,000 stops, adding "although the numbers were higher in early February, I think the message is certainly out there."

Kucera says the volume of garbage was up last month because of the mild weather.

The real crackdown and enforcement begins Monday. Waste will not be picked up for repeat offenders.

"Obviously there will be a continued need to use the decals for those first time non-compliant properties," says Kucera.

He's urging people to call if they have any questions about the collection program.
