Condo Project Spurs Renewed Hope

At least one Chatham-Kent councillor is optimistic a completed, occupied condo will be standing tall in downtown Chatham by Christmas.

Brock McGregor recently toured the high-rise project, and thinks the developers are serious about meeting their year-end deadline.

"Their commitment to giving the road space back on King Street by the end of the year, last year, and meeting that commitment, is certainly a good sign that they're serious about the commitments they've been making publicly," McGregor says. "They were really honest and open about some of the challenges that they've faced."

The Boardwalk Condominium project has been met with mounting skepticism, as construction has been ongoing since 2011. According to site supervisor Brian Chute, construction was delayed this summer due to concrete and balcony-related issues. But McGregor says the transparency demonstrated during his meeting with the developers will serve the public interest.

"This has been an issue in the community. There's been a lot of talk on when it will be done, if it will be done," he says. "But [when it is done] it's going to allow development to continue and it's going to be a focal point of that downtown area in Chatham, which is very important to have finished."
