Stigma Enigma Providing Boost For Maryvale

Maryvale Adolescent and Family Services in Windsor is able to provide more people with mental health care, thanks to a donation of $127,000.

The money comes from an event called Stigma Enigma, which was held at the Caboto Club back in November, and featured guest speaker Margaret Trudeau.

Executive Director of Maryvale Connie Martin says the donation allows them to hire two full time therapists, which will significantly increase the number of teens seen.

"[Many teens] are currently waiting for counselling, which is a high demand area. In excess of 100 teens that are currently in great distress will now be able to be counselled quickly. These teens may otherwise have had to wait extended periods of time for counselling or fallen through the cracks," explains Martin.

This year's Stigma Enigma will again be held at the Caboto Club in November and is set to feature four-time Olympian Silken Laumann.
