Local Chamber Has Demands For Province

The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce is making some key recommendations to the province as the Legislature begins its spring session next week.

The chamber has three priorities for this area.

Eliminate the $2.6-billion deficit in 2017-2018 because it exposes us to rising interest rates and economic slowdowns; expand broadband access especially in rural areas like Essex County; and put aside $30-million to help municipalities pay for provincial highways going through communities.

Chamber President Matt Marchand says businesses lack confidence in Ontario and are holding onto cash rather than expanding production or investing.

He says the recommendations will restore fiscal balance and spur economic growth.
