Damage Estimated At $3M After Fire Destroys Three Businesses

Damage is estimated at $3-million after a large fire that engulfed three businesses in Chatham.

Early Sunday morning, police and fire personnel responded to a structure fire at a plaza located at 701 St. Clair St., after a passerby called 911. The plaza housed the Lighting & Accent Gallery, Sacwal Flooring Centre, and Ideal Decorating.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause, but at this point it is not considered suspicious. The blaze reportedly started at Ideal Decorating and spread to the other two businesses.

The investigation is expected to conclude on Tuesday.
