Cold, Windy Weather Hinders Firefighters Battling Blaze

Fire officials are investigating after a fire broke out at a home north of Blenheim.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services says on Friday around 11:54am, fire crews were called to the two-storey house at 20866 Mull Rd., after receiving reports of smoke billowing from the roof.  Firefighters arrived to find the blaze quickly moving through the home and were forced to call in other stations to provide pumpers, water tankers and an aerial tower to fight the fire.

Fire officials say extremely cold conditions and strong winds forced crews to work internally and externally to extinguish the blaze.

Damage to the home is estimated at around $500,000.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
