Good Year For Christmas Tree Farms

Another good year for Christmas tree farms in Chatham-Kent.

"We were up a little bit this year, and we've been going up a little bit each year," says Matthew Whitney with Puddleford Tree Farm near Kent Bridge. "I think more and more people are adopting the fresh Christmas tree as opposed to an artificial tree, it seems to be a trend, which is a good trend."

Whitney says the white weather helped, too.

"People certainly like to have snow, it puts them in the Christmas atmosphere, but a nice day brings people out as well. If the weather's poor, you have a little less people. But if the weather's good, you get lots of folks, so it varies."

Whitney says it takes about 10 years from planting to harvest.

Puddleford Tree Farm started planting Christmas trees in 2002, and they've been doing U-Cut for seven years.
