Maroons Shoot Down Rockets 7-2

The Chatham Maroons scored a 7-2 victory over the Strathroy Rockets in GOJHL action on Thursday.

Kevin Gursoy and Braden Henderson scored to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Strathroy scored their first goal for the game early in the second, but Steven Beenackers scored twice to make it 4-1 for Chatham going into the third.

Bryce Yetman and Noah Bushnell both scored for the Maroons within the first six minutes of the final frame before the Rockets scored their second of the night. Chatham capped off their win with one final goal by Kevin Gursoy with just over six minutes left.

Goaltender Lucas Patton made 33 saves for Chatham, out of 35 shots on net.

Thursday marked Bushnell's first game with the Maroons, and his first goal with his new team.

"The pace is a little different, I'm still adjusting to the play of the guys," he says. "The chemistry seemed to work pretty good, our lines got a couple points. So, so far so good."

The Maroons return to the ice on January 6 when they head to St. Marys to take on the Lincolns.
