CK Puts Diversity On Display Tonight

The Local Immigration Partnership wants to put some pep in your step tonight.

It's hosting a celebration of dance from around the world at The Kent 1874 from 6pm until 9pm.

Project Coordinator Victoria Bodnar says not to worry -- there's going to be plenty of food for you to taste-test as well.

"This really is a fun way to celebrate some of the different cultures in Chatham-Kent, and have those groups express their cultures through dance and food," she says. "So people have the chance to engage a bit and learn a couple simple steps in those dances, and sample a variety of different foods from around the community."

There's an opportunity for you to take part in 30-minute dance lessons by the Filipino Canadian Community of Chatham-Kent, the Portuguese Folklore Group, the Cornell School of Irish Dance, the Chatham-Kent Chinese Association, and the Delaware Nation at Moraviantown.

A 'diverse' range of local restaurants will set up vendors inside the venue, including Rice and Noodle Thai and Chinese Cuisine, Chef Dimitar, Sally's Restaurant out of Tilbury, Kabab Hut, and Spice and Curry Indian Restaurant.

Bodnar says people often underestimate the diversity that exists in Chatham-Kent.

"And that's really part of the reason of hosting an event like this is just to celebrate all of the different people that are here and what they're doing in the community, how they're contributing," says Bodnar. "People I think are happy this type of event's being hosted. It's not every day you get to engage with local groups in this kind of way."

Tickets are still available at the door for $10. Kids under 13 are free.
