Chatham-Kent police have arrested two Chatham residents following an internal fraud investigation with a big price tag at Dana Canada Corp.
The manufacturer, which builds power train and thermal-management parts for vehicles, first notified police about the situation back in February 2016.
Police say a Dana accounting analyst allegedly used company credit cards to withdraw $334,000 in cash advances. Police allege this happened between January 2013 and July 2015. Investigators say the suspect allegedly used the cash to get money orders, altering the carbon copies to look like they were paid out to valid vendors.
Police allege the originals went to the suspect and her husband's personal accounts instead.
Officers say as a result of their investigation, 38-year-old Stephanie Bellamy of Chatham has been charged with 101 counts of forgery and uttering forged documents, along with one count of fraud over $5,000. Jeffrey Bellamy of Chatham is also charged with fraud over $5,000.
Dana Canada Corp. officials say they're completely cooperating with police in the investigation. They add that the employee in question is no longer associated with the company.
The accused were arrested on October 5. Both of them are set to appear in court on November 8.
