Safety Videos Close A Few Chatham Roads

There will be some road closures in Chatham Thursday as film crews work to put together some safety tips for cyclists.

Genevieve Champagne, Chatham-Kent's transportation and special events coordinator, says there is a growing need for cyclists to be better educated about how to share the road with motorists.

"The act of transportation is getting a lot more popular with residents," says Champagne. "[With the bike lanes we have] we want the public to know how to use them safely."

Champagne says this project has been in the works for a while, but now that they've received a grant from the Ministry of Transportation's Cycling Training Fund, they're able to go ahead with the project.

There will be about three videos focusing on different areas such as proper equipment, road safety, and encouraging active transportation. The videos are expected to be released by spring 2017.

The roads that will be affected by today's filming are:

Lacroix St. between Cecile Ave. and Indian Creek Rd. W between 9am-12pm and 1pm-3pm.

Cecile Ave. between Lacroix St. and the western limit of Chatham will be closed between 8:30am and 2pm.

Faubert Dr. between Kenny Ave. and Indian Creek Rd. W will be closed between 8:30am and 2pm.
