Kent Bridge Expected To Re-Open Soon

The Kent Bridge is expected to re-open to traffic just in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.

The bridge over the Thames River on Kent Bridge Rd. has been closed since September 15, 2016, following a diesel fuel spill.

Closure of the bridge had previously been estimated to last until November due to necessary repairs, but that is no longer the case.

During Monday night's council meeting, Chatham-Kent's Director of Engineering Adam Sullo stood at the podium to give an update. He says the affected asphalt has been milled off of a section of the bridge and base asphalt has been placed on Longwoods Rd. The next step involves putting a protectant onto the asphalt.

"The company coming to do the waterproofing material will be here on Wednesday," says Sullo. "They'll be applying that Wednesday and Thursday."

Provided there are no weather issues, Sullo says the bridge should be open by the end of the day on Friday.

More information is expected to be released Thursday.
