The Golden Helmets Are In Town

The Chatham-Kent OPP, along with other emergency services are welcoming the public to an event at St. Clair College today.

They're hosting Family Day 2016.

Staff Sergeant Brad Coulbeck says there are many activities and demonstrations scheduled for the day.

"There'll be some vehicles on display, there'll be some special demonstrations from the tactical emergency unit, the emergency response team, the explosive disposal unit, K-9 [unit], as well as other specialized units," says Coulbeck.

One of the most anticipated performances will be from the Golden Helmets.

"The Golden Helmets is a precision motorcycle team and they've been a part of the OPP since 1963," says Coulbeck. "They demonstrate their superb riding [skills] on the OPP motorcycles - which are Harley Davidsons."

In addition to the activities and demonstrations planned there will be a raffle draw for an autographed Alex Ovechkin jersey, and a custom made pedal car for kids.

Tickets will be sold for $5 and proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Chatham-Kent Victim Services.

He says it's a good opportunity for locals to come to the event, especially since there's no guarantee it'll be back next year.

"This is a regional OPP event so last year it was in London - for example," says Coulbeck. "Next year it may be in another location so it is a good opportunity while it's in Chatham to come out and see."

The event starts this afternoon at 1:30pm.
