Over 150 golfers are taking part in this year's McLeod Moustache Golf Tournament today, in what's become a summer tradition in Chatham-Kent.
The tournament is in memory of Nik McLeod, who died of Leukemia ten years ago. His brother Chris carries on his memory through the annual festivities.
"The original idea was to just to get some friends together and just golf and hang out," says McLeod. "That first year we had eight to ten teams, really small, and we weren't looking to raise a lot of money.
The tournament is in its ninth year, and has raised over $35,000 to date. This year's tournament is at the Willow Ridge Golf And Country Club in Blenheim.
For those who aren't on one of this year's 40 teams, McLeod says you can help the charity event by bidding in their online auction.
"I wouldn't say we've had to turn away teams this year, but we've just tightened up some of the teams and make sure there are full foursomes," adds McLeod. "A lot of people don't golf, or people who can't make it out, you can go to MoustacheGolf.com and bid on six items."
Proceeds from the day will go to Wheels Of Hope, the CKHA's Oncology Patient Parking Program and the CK Hospice.
