Shrewsbury Boat Launch In Need Of A Makeover

Upgrades could be on the way for the Shrewsbury boat launch.

Municipal staff will be speaking with The Shrewsbury Community Association as well as local residents about it to see what they would like to be done.

South Kent Councillor Karen Herman says it is Chatham-Kent's hidden gem and since it's a tourist destination and provides the only public access to Rondeau Bay, some beautification improvments should be made.

"If we're going to do any investing we need to look at that now and have staff come back and report to us as to what it would cost (to make improvements to the area)," says Herman.

One example of a necessary renovation is the parking lot. Herman says it's a long gravel road and it should be reviewed .

Since issues with road conditions are a factor Herman says a project like this may involve more than just the community development department. It may also involve the infrastructure and engineering departments.

"It might be a joint effort of a couple of different department to come back to council," says Herman.

A report regarding the Shrewsbury Boat Launch will return to municipal council in September.
