It's a day everyone should get to experience - riding your first bike.
The Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent partnered with iCan Shine to host iCan Bike Camp this week, a program where those with special needs can learn how to ride a two-wheel bike.
The camp participants were between the ages of 8 and 19.
Camp Director Shauna Jackson says volunteers acted as spotters for those learning to ride a bike and evaluate if they're ready to get onto a two-wheeler.
"On average the bike camp over five days has an 80 per cent success rate," says Jackson. "For those who aren't quiet there by Friday the staff works with the families and talk about what they can work on."
Jackson says they received a great response from the kids and their families.
Dylan Rehill, 19, had never ridden a bike before camp and was very excited to ride a two-wheel bike.
His mother, Lisa Rehill says the experience has been fantastic.
"Words really can't express how great this has been," says Rehill. "Staff are wonderful, volunteers are wonderful and it's just really rewarding."
Since iCan Shine is an American company the program has only run in the States. This is the first year it has come to Chatham.
