Heat Repeat For Southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued yet another heat warning for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex and London-Middlesex.

It's a case of déja vu for weather officials, after an extended heat warning last week. South winds are moving an air mass towards Southwestern Ontario from the Gulf of Mexico. This will create hot and humid conditions beginning Tuesday, lasting until Thursday or Friday.

"During the event we're expecting temperatures to get into the low 30s (86F), humidity making it feel like 40C (104F)," says Environment Canada's Geoff Coulson.

A special air quality statement is also in effect for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. The weather agency says possible high levels of pollution can be expected Tuesday. The hot and sunny conditions could cause increased ozone concentrations in the afternoon.

Residents, particularly area farmers, shouldn't expect rain to be a huge factor this week either. Coulson adds any rainfall that we see, while heavy at times, will be sporatic.

"Perhaps [we will have] some brief relief as the rain itself is falling," explains Coulson. "But as soon as that rain ends, the humidity should come back with a vengeance, and make it feel even more uncomfortable."

Environment Canada says Friday will be a "transition day," in which a front will move in and return temperatures to seasonal values (26C or 79F) over the weekend.
