Police Chase ATV Riders Through Cornfield

Chatham-Kent police had to bring in its K9 Unit to track down two alleged gas thieves near Wallaceburg.

Officials say a farmer saw two men riding an ATV on his neighbour's property on Starkweather Line around 10am Wednesday. Knowing his neighbours weren't home, he watched the suspects and called police when he saw them go into a shed.

They had allegedly taken a small container of gasoline.

When police arrived on scene, officers say the suspects drove off through a cornfield. They later separated, with police catching the 18-year-old ATV rider when he returned to the road.

The CKPS K9 dog Arry took the other suspect on a short chase, before officers found him hiding in a ditch. He was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries.

When police searched the suspects, they allegedly found bolt cutters, a flashlight, ratchet and a multi-tool.

Now two men of no fixed address, ages 18 and 35, face a long list of charges including break and enter, as well as mischief and possession of stolen property under $5,000. The 35-year-old also had a warrant for administering a noxious substance and assault

The two suspects are being held for a bail hearing.
