Ag Poll Shows Climate Plan Concerns

A recent poll from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture shows the province's farmers don't have much faith in the new Climate Change Action Plan.

The OFA posed this question last week, and just recently tweeted out the results.

OFA President Don McCabe speculates that the provincial document has a lack of specifically defined programs, leading to uncertainty for farmers.

"All they've heard right now is the issue of increased costs probably coming to their business," says McCabe. "When you don't have a detailed program analysis to sit down and look at, I would be concerned also."

McCabe is glad natural gas isn't on the chopping block, with $100,000 committed to the energy source. But he adds he won't be satisfied until the province shows guaranteed funding for more infrastructure.

He says more information on soil maps are also needed, so farmers can take on more precision agriculture practices.
