After missing two project deadlines, MP for Windsor-West Brian Masse is looking for answers on the progress of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
Currently the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority is developing the RFP to be issued to the short list of contractors. It was supposed to be finished early in 2016.
Masse went right to the top and asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for answers in question period.
"There's no reason not to be sharing that information with the public and making sure that they feel well acquainted with the process and any delays or potential problems and potential benefits to delaying if we need to for a little bit longer," says Masse.
During question period Trudeau deferred the question to the Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi who reaffirmed the government's commitment to the project but did not provide answers.
Spokesperson for the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority Mark Butler says the process is well underway.
"Three international teams have been shortlisted and will be invited to the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. We anticipate release of the RFP to the proponents in the near term," says Butler. "This is an extremely complicated project and procurement process with many moving parts. We have one chance to get this right."
The bridge is expected to be completed by 2020.
