Dog Found Tied Up At Park

OSPCA officials say a dog found apparently abandoned in a Chatham dog park is "responding well."

The Chatham-Kent OSPCA says someone came across a yellow, labrador-type dog tied up at John Waddell Park Thursday morning, and it appeared to have some minor medical issues.

"She has been examined by a veterinarian. The dog is responding well from what I'm told," says OSPCA investigator Brandon James. "It's an ongoing process with respect to that medical issue."

Through investigation the OSPCA found the dog had a microchip under its skin. These chips are installed by vets, so rescuers can look up an animal's medical information, as well as their owners' emergency contact information. While James says the dog's owners had not kept info on the chip up to date, they have learned the dog's name is Sarah.

He adds leaving a dog out in public, hoping someone will find and take care of it, is not a safe option.

"If you cannot care for your pet, whether its for medical or financial needs, contact your local animal control or OSPCA shelter, and inquire how you can relinquish that animal to us," says James.

He says the case is still under investigation.
