Feeding The Hungry By Gleaning

Chatham-Kent public health is trying to set up food drive system that doesn't just ask people to donate canned goods.

Dietician Lyndsay Davidson is looking for volunteers to set up a gleaner program and for farmers who will donate extra crops to it.

"It takes leftover crops or things like seconds or products that might not be (for sale) to the general population and it allows us to go into those farmers fields and harvest them," she says. "All of the product right now will be going to our local food banks, soup kitchens, food skills programs and some people will be able to take some home as well depending on how much we are able to harvest."

People taking part will have a training session and any harvesting will be done as a group.
