Hydro Bills Will Include Ups And Downs

Electricity rates are going up next month, but the cost of delivering that energy in Chatham-Kent is going down.

Entegrus says Chatham-Kent households that consume 750 kWh per month should see the distribution portion of their bill drop about $1.60 a month while residents in Newbury who use the same amount of energy will save about $6.47.

President & CEO of Entegrus Jim Hogan says they were able to find these savings while they were putting together a recent rate application.

“Previously, Entegrus operated four rate zones as a result of utility acquisitions. We were able to achieve efficiencies by amalgamating these acquisitions while leveraging other recent industry changes. Further, we were able to harmonize Entegrus distribution rates across our service territory. This means that all customers in the same rate class are now paying the same amount for the same level of service,” says Hogan in a release provided to BlackburnNews.com.

Officials with Entegrus say the decreases to the delivery charge are expected to help offset an increase in the cost of electricity that will kick in province-wide May 1, 2016.

The Ontario Energy Board estimates the changes to the provincial Time-of-Use electricity prices will add about $3.13 a month on the electricity line of the average monthly hydro bill.
