Emergency Services Raising Blood Donor Awareness

Police, firefighters and paramedics in Chatham-Kent have been called into action to help save lives by giving blood.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services, Medavie EMS and the Chatham-Kent OPP are supporting the Canadian Blood Services during the annual Uniforms Unite to Save Lives campaign.

The month-long blood donor campaign promotes the need for donors in the community.

Chatham-Kent OPP Sergeant Brian Knowler says it's always an excellent opportunity when emergency responders have the chance to join together for a good cause.

"Let's face it, we see the scenes where people are needing this blood," he says. "God forbid, one day it might be one of us who is lying in that ER or OR waiting for that blood. So I think a half hour out of my day and getting a little prick in the arm is well worth it."

To book an appointment to donate, local residents can visit blood.ca or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
