As water levels continue to rise, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the Sydenham River and smaller streams.
This after the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority warned people to stay away from local waterways.
Heavy rainfall earlier in the week paired with the 20-45 mm expected in the next 24 hours means water levels continue to rise.
The north and east branched of the Sydenham River are high and as rain continues over the next 24 hours they are going to continue to rise.
Drains, streams and floodplain areas will experience local flooding and there is the potential for more serious flooding depending on the amount of rain.
Meanwhile, the ground is saturated from heavy rain and the Lower Thames watershed is surging. Those surrounding the Thames River, Indian Creek and Mcgregor Creek in Chatham are being asked to keep an eye on the situation.
Some localized flooding is possible, but the LTVCA has yet to issue a flood watch or warning.
Conservation officials are operating the Indian-McGregor Creek Diversion Channel and the 6th St. dam is prepared, if needed.
In downtown Chatham sidewalks along the Thames River remain underwater and will be until at least next week. Those with businesses or homes on King St. that back onto the river should prepare for water levels to continue to rise.
When outdoors, take extra precaution near waterways due to slippery banks and fast moving water.
