Chatham-Kent Hospice officials hope allocated funding from the province will be more open than previous funding models.
In its annual budget, the Ontario government has allocated $75,000 for palliative care.
Chatham-Kent Hospice Director of Development Jodi Maroney says their current funding is restricted to medical care costs, adding that mostly covers salaries for their medical staff.
"Anything like utilities, program supplies, supplies for our kitchen, have to be fundraised," explains Maroney.
Maroney also points to the announced allocation as a sign the government is recognizing the importance of end-of-life care facilities, like the hospice.
"By moving some of that care into hospices will mean less cost for the healthcare system," says Maroney. "And people are going to get the more appropriate type of care for their situation."
Maroney adds they've yet to hear how much of that $75,000 will be given to Chatham-Kent.
