Residents in Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex got a taste of spring in February when the temperature soared to record-breaking heights over the weekend.
In Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, the temperature rose to 17 C (63 F) breaking the February 20 record of 14 C (57 F), which was set 1983.
And in Chatham-Kent, thermometers hit 15 C (59 F), which breaks the previous record of 12.5 C (54.5 F) from 1994.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Yoseph Mengesha says with it being one month shy of the spring season, it isn't too unusual to see the temperatures become this mild.
"The clear sky and the winds from the southwest helped to break Windsor and Chatham's record," he says. "In most of Ontario we're seeing these mild temperatures prevailing."
Mengesha says Sunday will continue to be mild at 6 C (43 F). However, high pressure from the Prairies pushing into Ontario will cause the temperature to drop to around -8 C (18 F) Sunday night and Monday morning.
