Chatham-Kent Hospice Opening Soon

A $150,000 grant from the province is helping the Chatham-Kent Hospice to meet its goal of opening in early April.

The grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will cover the cost of furnishing the Family Great Room and some communications equipment.

Director of Development Jodi Maroney says they'll be holding a pair of public open houses on April 9 and 10.

"They're finishing the final details of the hospice now," says Maroney. "We're very excited and very proud of the project and we'd love the public to come in and look at what all of their contributions have been able to create for our community."

The day after those open houses wrap up, the hospice will start welcoming its first patients.

"They will be coming in on a staggered basis so that we can make sure the staff and volunteers can adjust appropriately," says Maroney.

The hospice has already filled the majority of its staff positions, but officials are still looking to hire a spiritual care co-ordinator.
