Will Campaign Heating Up

The Lung Association of Ontario's Will Campaign is nearly doubling its fundraising total from a year ago, about seven months before the finish line.

The annual campaign runs from September to August.

Lawyers volunteer their time preparing a basic will or basic power of attorney for people at a reduced rate with money raised going to education, awareness and support of those living with lung disease.

Julie Bortolotti with the campaigns says $1,400 has been raised as of February 4 across Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, more than $500 better than last year's campaign.

"I just think it's a really great opportunity for people to have these documents drawn up," says Bortolotti. "This is a great opportunity to support the lung association while having peace of mind for yourself and your family at the same time."

Bortolotti hopes the campaign helps change people's attitudes towards preparing a will.

"I think a lot of the thing is maybe people think, 'Oh nothing is going to happen to me, I don't need a will,'" says Bortolotti.

Getting a basic will done as part of the campaign will cost $100 while preparing a basic power of attorney will cost $50. For more information on the campaign, click here.
