Rural Leaders Meeting In Chatham

Municipal leaders in southwestern Ontario meet this morning in Chatham and economic development is the topic.

Today's annual general meeting of the Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus will push for support from federal and provincial governments because small communities want to be considered when companies locate or expand in Ontario.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope says the push to export food and agriculture products is high on the agenda and so is bringing faster internet service to rural areas.

There are indications Hope will remain as chair for a second year.

We should also expect an update on fibre optics. The caucus has made broadband technology for rural areas a priority.

A news conference to discuss progress is set for early this afternoon.
