Digital Investigations Growing

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is better able to investigate computer crime and child pornography now than just a couple of years ago.

The number of internet child exploitation investigations jumped from 14 in 2014 to 80 last year.

Police Chief Gary Conn says computer investigations are becoming another aspect of every day police work.

"This is the age we are living in and as a result we certainly identified the need for these units," he says, adding that last year's large increase was because the unit is new. "The officer who is in there right now was not fully trained and we didn't have the equipment that we have today."

Conn says in the future digital investigation units will most likely have to be expanded.
