203 Jobs Coming To Leamington

Lakeside Produce in Leamington is looking to fill 203 full time positions over the next three years.

Minister of Agriculture Jeff Leal visited Leamington this morning to announce the company is receiving a $1-million grant from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund for an expansion to their facilities.

"It will allow Lakeside Produce to expand and build on this success as it continues to contribute to our provinces growing agri-food sector," says Leal.

The $7-million project includes an 80,000 sq/ft expansion of the production facility and additional greenhouses. This will allow the company to increase production and ship across the Americas and into Asia.

"With the expansion of the facility we're able to pre-cool fruit to proper pulp temperatures at the core, package them properly and then stabilize them for longer transports," says President and CEO Chris Cervini.

The expansion also helps to retain 312 current positions at the facility. Wages for the full time jobs range from 11/hr to executive level salaries.

BlackburnNews.com was first to report last week that Leamington mayor John Paterson said 200 jobs would be coming thanks to a provincial grant.
