Ready To Get Mega Hospital Project Moving

A new social media campaign's being launched by Windsor Regional Hospital, aimed at letting the provincial government know how badly the community needs a new one-site, acute care facility.

Local politicians and other community leaders met at the Fogolar Furlan Club today, to launch #WEareready.

Through this campaign, hospital officials say they are letting Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins know the region is united and ready to get approval to move to stage two of the five-stage process.

"Politics aside we're here today, historically, to show we're serious and that sends a strong message. That's what we're talking about with this hashtag," says Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj. "A lot of times in a community you only hear the small vocal naysayers, we always hear that. There is a large silent majority that is speaking up saying we need to move ahead."

The campaign comes after some in the community voiced concerns over the site selection and the committee was forced to defend the process.

A letter in support of the project is also on its way to the minister.

"It's a letter to say we've come together as a community unified and we're committed to working together to make this project a reality and we're committed to working with the Erie St. Clair LHIN and the Ministry of Health to make that happen," says Musyj.

Musyj adds he hopes to hear this spring, whether or not Windsor's got the green light to move forward with the $2-billion project.
