Essex MP Tracey Ramsey is condemning the Liberal government's plan to sign the Trans-Pacific Partnership next week in New Zealand.
She says, "There was a study released out of Tulsa University in the States, last week, that said that 58,000 jobs will be lost in Canada under the TPP. And we will see less than a 1% bump in our economy by 2030."
Ramsey will be bringing up the TPP during question period today, as the House of Commons re-opens.
She adds that patents for certain drugs are also expected to be extended under the Trans-Pacific deal, which would cause drug prices to soar in Canada.
According to International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland, signing the 12-country treaty doesn't necessarily mean Canada will ultimately ratify it, however. She says the Liberal government is committed to hearing from Canadians before a ratification vote is held in Parliament.
