Proposed Mega-Hospital Sites Released

The 22 sites considered for the new mega-hospital in Windsor-Essex are now available to the public thanks to a Freedom of Information request.

The documents reveal only the two highest scoring sites of the 22 submitted were short listed for the final phase of the selection process even though up to five could have been chosen.

Through the first phase of the process, the eventual site chosen for the new hospital at County Rd. 42 and Concession Rd. 9 south of the Windsor airport finished with the second highest score. The property with the highest score after the first phase was on Tecumseh Rd. E west of the Lauzon Pkwy. behind Home Depot. However, the $6-million price tag for the site near the airport proved to be a better deal in the selection committee's eyes and bumped up the site's scores ahead of the Tecumseh Rd. E location.

Other sites considered for the new regional hospital reached as far into the county as Amherstburg and Essex while the City of Windsor put forward a 65 acre (24 ha) parcel of land near the airport for consideration.
