Chatham-Kent Mayor Uninterested In Uber (Poll)

The mayor of Chatham-Kent sees no need for Uber in his municipality because he says the existing public transportation system is fine.

Randy Hope says Uber belongs in larger urban centres.

"When you hear concerns raised by the residents (that's when) you look at other service providers for a different mechanism," says Hope. "I mean today when you look at Chatham-Kent we have our local transit systems that we provide and we have a taxi service that I have never really heard any complaints about."

Hope says Chatham-Kent hasn't been approached by Uber, but he would entertain a discussion if they do in the future.

Windsor recently became Uber's newest market. Cab drivers oppose the move saying they don't comply with the city's bylaws.

Meanwhile, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says they aren't taxis, but rather a ride sharing service. The city is currently working to create bylaws that apply to Uber.

The company launched in London over the summer.
