Steven Beenackers scored the game winning goal that gave the Chatham Maroons a 5-4 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires in double overtime on Sunday.
After both teams scored in the first, the Legionnaires edged ahead 3-2 in the second. Sarnia gained further ground with their fourth goal in the third, but Chatham was able to score two more of their own to tie the game 4-4 and force OT.
Beenackers scored the game winner just over four minutes into second overtime for Chatham's fifth straight win.
"We knew that with five-on-five against this team, we can play all over them," says Beenackers. "[Sarnia] got some good bounces and went up 4-2 on us, but we knew if we stayed on them, kept drilling them, we knew we were going to pot a couple."
The Maroons take on the LaSalle Vipers on Wednesday at 7pm.
