Spitfires Break Spirit 5-1

Christian Fischer added another multiple-goal game to his season, scoring two as the Windsor Spitfires walked over the Saginaw Spirit 5-1 Friday night at the WFCU Centre.

It was the fourth multi-goal game of the year for Fischer, who says he does not feel pressure to maintain his current status as one of the Spits' top point producers.

"I think I'm above a point-per-game guy, not necessarily goals or assists one way or the other," says Fischer.  "I can tell you that I like to score, but I don't say I feel pressure, I think it's just self-expectations."

Fischer put the Spitfires' first point of the night on the scoreboard at 7:23 in the first period, assisted by Aaron Luchuk.  Windsor went up 2-0 later in the period on an Anthony Stefano goal.  Saginaw would score its only goal of the game with 11 seconds left in the period on Kris Bennett's seventh tally of the season.

The first period was also marked with fisticuffs between the Spits' Logan Stanley and Saginaw's Keaton Middleton.  Both got instigator-related penalties.

There was no scoring in the second period of a game in which defenceman and captain Patrick Sanvido felt he was getting back into a groove after missing 19 games this season to injury.

"It was long overdue," says Sanvido.  "I was getting very frustrated and very antsy watching from up top, especially with the last five games we've had having gone so well."

The Spitfires pulled away for good in the third period with three more goals.  Fischer scored again with Bradley Latour and Gabriel Vilardi following suit in that period.

Fischer says the method of scoring is crucial.

"It's our type of game...I think the way we score is how we're going to win games," says Fischer.  "We're real happy, our coaches are really happy with the way we scored and I think that's what we're going to do tomorrow (Saturday) as well."

The Spitfires head to Saginaw tomorrow to complete the home-and-away, then return Sunday afternoon to host the London Knights.
