Standing Up Against Violence Towards Women

Dozens of concerned citizens joined the Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent today to say "no" to violence against women.

Members of the group and local residents gathered on the 3rd St. bridge in Chatham as part of a march to demonstrate support for women around the world.

Wanda Bell with the Zonta Club says it's part of a larger effort marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence towards Women.

"Unfortunately this is a problem that has not changed over the past 30 years," says Bell. "Women are being abused in so many ways: human trafficking, rape, sexual assault -- we can even say lack of education for women around the world."

About 35 or 40 people showed up for the event.
