A First Of Its Kind In Canada

A Chatham company is the first in the country to make and sell a pothole filler thought by some to be the best on the market.

Karen Koomans owns Pebbles Gravel and Topsoil on Richmond St. She's partnered with strataWorks Canada and Ohio based Unique Paving Materials to sell the asphalt mix.

"It lasts long, it takes away time to go back-and-forth if there are potholes in the road, to go fill in the potholes, you don't have to go back anymore," says Koomans. "It's done, you don't have to put hot mix on it, so it cuts the time for the city workers and we're happy to be partners with the municipality on it too."

The municipality ran test samples with the product last year and were impressed enough to sign a one-year deal to use the product this year.

The asphalt mix is also available to the public.

Producers say the product requires just one application, and therefore offers a safer work environment by keeping crews off the road.

StrataWorks Canada distributes specialized products for construction and rehabilitation work across the country.
