Man Gets Life For Stomping Death

A 23-year-old Walpole Island man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his great uncle in June 2012.

Naanan Mackenzie Williams was sentenced today (Mon) after being convicted in January of this year of second degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Clifford Riley.

Riley's body was found on a riverfront road on Walpole Island with multiple blunt force injuries.

The jury trial heard he had been stomped to death.

Superior Court Justice John Desotti sentenced Williams to the mandatory life in prison with no eligibility for parole for the minimum of ten years.

Williams showed remorse when sentenced, saying "it's tragic, the night should have never happened."

Desotti said the tragic evening was fuelled by the consumption of alcohol.
