Fiance Of Crash Victim Praying For Recovery

One woman is hopeful her fiance will pull through after a motorcycle crash left him fighting for his life.

On Tuesday around 2:30pm, Jamie Stokes, a 49-year-old Erieau man, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in Harwich Township, when he collided with a Chevrolet Impala at the intersection of Erieau Rd. and Bisnett Line.

Stokes suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, before being airlifted to Victoria Hospital in London.

Jem Buell says Stokes, her fiance, is currently stable in a medically induced coma.

"A helmet can't protect everything. In this case, upon impact, Jamie's helmet came off," she says. "He now needs a hip replacement, he has got some head trauma, some bone has had to be removed to remove a blood clot from his head."

The 59-year-old woman who was driving the Chevrolet was not injured in the crash, and no charges have been laid at this time

Buell says her fiance will most likely need to go through a long period of rehabilitation and may be partially deaf due to the impact of the collision.

"We hope for the best... He's in the best hospital he could possibly be in at this point," she says. "We just hope that he pulls through and he makes it through, and he comes home to all of us."

Buell says, despite the crash, Stokes is one of the safest drivers she has ever met and hopes this unfortunate crash doesn't cost "one heck of a person their life."

"He's so full of life and we definitely don't want to lose him," she says.

Anyone looking to help out during this difficult time is welcome to contact Jem Buell at 519-365-9253.
