Respect Rally for Educational Workers

Local CUPE workers protested for respect Tuesday evening outside the Lambton Kent District School Board office on Wellington St. About 100 members carrying signs and holding bells walked the streets surrounding the building and handed out flyers informing the public of why they're working to rule.

President of CUPE 1238 Jody McGill says they want to negotiate a collective agreement that shows respect for the important work they do within the education system.

CUPE workers include educational assistants, office administrators, custodians, instructors, library technicians, and speech pathologists to name a few.

They claim government cutbacks compromise the ability of education workers to provide the learning environments students need and deserve. Workers have been without contract for more than a year now.
