Street Racing A Leamington Problem

A dangerous trend has started popping up on Leamington roads, according to the town's mayor.

Side-by-side street racing is a growing problem says John Paterson, something he's told the local OPP about.

An increasing number of people are reporting "side-by-side street racing is going on in the early evening hours or late evening hours," according to Paterson.

"I think we're looking at younger adults who have the ability to enhance their vehicles to do what they do."

Paterson says the trouble spots are Erie St. S near the ferry dock and along Cherry Lane.

He says it's difficult for police because they have to be there at the time of the race to make an arrest. He urges the public to get licence plates and times if they see the racing occur, so police can act.
