MMA Success Leads To 2nd Show

On the success of the first organized MMA event in Chatham a second has already been confirmed.

Owner of Maple City Cagefighting Thomas Armstrong says last weekend's show proved there's local interest in amateur mixed martial arts.

"The VIPs sold out six weeks out from the event and the general admission sold out about two weeks before the event," says Armstrong. "It really took off, I was really shocked at how fast it really picked up."

The Chatham resident and Blenheim native says they had 540 people at the Chatham Banquet Hall and Conference Centre on Merritt Ave. Saturday night for the ten card event.

The second MMA event will be held February 27, at the same location, with between 10 to 15 fights on the card. Armstrong adds the event will be licensed for alcohol service, with capacity increased to 600 spectators.

Tickets go on sale December 1st.
