Serenity Trail For New Hospice

Leamington is spending an unbudgeted $142,000 on a trail project connecting to the future hospice site in the town.

The Serenity Trail Project is being fast tracked to coincide with the facility's opening set for April 1.

"I was so touched to see the brilliance that went into putting in the Serenity Trail just behind the Hospice of Erie Shores," says Cheryl Deter, vice president and chief nursing executive with the hospice.

Council approved going with Fullerton Construction to build the trail without opening the project to other bidders as councillors were told the municipality was getting a good price.

"Really favourable unit pricing," says Rob Sharon, director of community services. "From that stand point, we're comfortable in recommending the award in light of the fact that it would be highly unlikely we would get better unit pricing if we went out and tendered once again."

The money for the project will come from the municipality's Federal Gas Tax Reserve.
