The transfer of some Eastern Ontario slots and casino operations to private sector operators is good news for Chatham-Kent and the Slots in Dresden according to Mayor Randy Hope.
The announcement was made by OLG recently and Hope says, while it doesn't directly affect this area, it means the conditions are right for changes here as well.
"Once they start to roll out these zones or areas our area will be coming up, I'm sure people will do their business case and evaluations I wouldn't want to predetermine what is going on," he says. "Its been a revenue source which helps keep our taxes down, we can't lose it out of the region it will always be a revenue source for the municipality."
Hope says while there is a committment to keep the slots in Chatham-Kent, a new operator would not be required to keep them in Dresden.
