Another Step Forward For New Transmission Line

The Ontario Energy Board is giving Hydro One approval to build a new transfer station and a 13 km transmission line near Leamington to serve the south county region.

Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos tells BlackburnNews.com it's up to Hydro One now as to when the new infrastructure is built.

"They now will set the schedule. The minister has outlined the target date for installation and having it online," says Santos. "That is very good news. We've been chasing the target for almost a decade if not more."

The new capacity is meant to help the greenhouse industry in the region and improve reliability in the area by taking pressure off of the Kingsville Transformer Station.

"It does free up capacity that's basically been pent up and awaiting further approvals in support of our greenhouse industry that is looking to evolve and move into potentially year-round production," says Santos.

The new Leamington Transformer Station is expected to be complete sometime in 2018.
