Board Director Assures Student Safety Maintained

The director of the Lambton-Kent Public Board assures parents that student safety is being maintained as they deal with job action by elementary teachers and support staff.

Jim Costello says the local board has been working with individual schools to meet their needs.

There are 1,000 CUPE members, including secretaries, early childhood educators, EAs and caretakers at the public board.

Custodians aren't sweeping hallways or cleaning the grounds as part of the job action.

On a positive note, talks are set to resume between the province and the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.

Costello is optimistic a deal will be reached now that the parties have agreed to return to the bargaining table.

A date has not yet been set.
