Atlas Tube Centre Battling Some Deficiencies

There are four noted deficiencies needing to be addressed at Lakeshore's Atlas Tube Centre as the project moves out of its first phase of construction.

Mayor Tom Bain isn't too concerned by the problems.

"A $62-million project and you've got four deficiencies that are being worked and now we've found solutions to them, no. I'm pleased. Where do you see a $62-million project an not have some areas of deficiencies. I've never heard of a project where there haven't been some deficiencies," Bain tells BlackburnNews.com.

The problem areas outlined were issues with the architectural block wall, landscaping, some paneling and climate controls in the lobby.

In the case of the architectural block wall it didn't turn out as expected with the design team deciding paint was the solution which Ward 2 councillor Len Janisse wasn't too impressed with.

"That's one of the reasons you build a structure is to make it rather nice, attractive and now you've gone and painted over the block that was supposed to give you that extra buzz, extra appeal. It is very disappointing," says Janisse.

As council heard the latest on some of the problems the multi-use recreation centre is facing, it also received an Award of Merit from the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario for extraordinary design.
